Dear Daughters

Dear Daughters,

I hope some day very, very soon you have the time and the space to dig in the dirt. It has become one of the great pleasures of my life. Today I planted tomato plants while country western music played on the radio. I danced and dug.

I want to be able to say to a friend or neighbor, “Do you need any tomatoes?” I want to be able to make my all time favorite Mills meal of beans, cornbread, and sliced tomatoes.

This old time menu will have a little valley twist to it. We’ll have Dad’s frijoles a la charra instead.

Mr. Segura, the gentleman who remodeled the little house, built me the box. He dropped it off one day as a surprise. He calls me Maestra (teacher). I like that very much.

I wanted to ‘paint the barn’ , as your great-grandmother used to say, so I added this.

This just may work out well.

We’ll see. Remember when I used to say that to you when you were little and you asked if you could do something?100_0558

Have a wonderful week.

Love, Mom

Thanks for visiting my blog. I just now found yours, and I'm enjoying reading it.

Re your post about the Pier 1 rabbits. I know what it's like to be easily swayed. I resisted the bunny on a stick, but I may have to have some of the Target birds.

Loved this post. It really made me feel "warm". I'm bugging my dear hubby for a raised box so that I can start my own, very first, veggie garden. I'd love a garden with tomatoes, bell peppers, zucchini (especially since these are so expensive in the market), and some green beans too. There just seems so much to do "before" I can get my garden. WE shall see...

Love your tomato plants. They look great. I have a few going too. I'm growing some collard greens, green bell peppers, squash, green beans. We'll see what I get from it.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I live in the Spring too. Lived off of Louetta for 4 years then moved to The Woodlands four years ago. We love it here.
I'm bookmarking your blog. We seem to have a love for lots of the same things. I also picked up an apron at Kirlands marked way down. I was in Branson, MO a couple of weeks ago. I'm starting to wear them more.

Oh how I miss our tomato plants. Before Frank passed away, I lived in Bakersfield, CA and we had tomato plants every year. Perhaps I can somehow acquire a box such as yours and do it here. I am adjusting to my new life...but I will always miss the old.
Love,
Mona
