A Few Birds

IMGP0030

After helping a friend with design questions about her home, she gave me a generous gift certificate to Pier I.  I found 8 of these dessert plates there, and I was reminded again of the love I have for all things ‘bird’.

I first made this connection when I discovered Mary Carol Garrity’s books, which are all wonderful .  They are all so wonderful in fact, I have added visiting Nell Hill’s (her shop in Kansas) to my ongoing list of things I want to explore some day with my girls.  That trip is right up there with the Rose Bowl flea market in California as well.

Mary Carol Garrity just knows how to arrange things in a way that speaks to me.

On that same trip to Pier I, I found these.

And then of course, with grandsons here this week, there is also ‘real’ bird watching- which is the best kind.

I wonder if they make children’s binoculars and gardening gloves?

Whata lovely gift.
We have so many wild birds here, and one of the shyest is the Greater spotted woodpecker, who comes to feed from our bird feeder. We love to watch them.

Laura, one of my brothers was an avid bird watcher, and I would beg him to take me with him on his expeditions. Sometimes, he would bring eggs home - tiny blue or green speckled eggs from deserted nests. I didn't pay much attention to birds over the years, but nowadays, I'm so aware of them, even having had our own pet cockatoo, which flew into our garden one March day. Anyway, that's a story in and of itself.

I've seen the children's binocculars and you're bound to be able to pick up a tiny pair of gloves in most general supermarkets. Go and spread that bird-love!

children's gardening gloves... I just bought some for my little grandson... I can't remember if it was target or walmart... but I think target... they're the perfect size for little hands that want to help...

love the plates and books... great choices!

Good mornin' Laura. I love birds too. It seems if it's got a bird, bunny or flowers I love it! I've been a little behind in keeping up with my blogging buds but I scrolled down and caught your posts on copying and zumba! I work at Curves but I've really wanted to try a zumba class. Now I'm not so sure! I like the cute shoes thing but coins around my waist! Well, That would be expensive! (LOL!) I'm of the mindset that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! So, I'm heading out today to find that book! God Bless! Lauralu :)

Those plates couldn't get much cuter, but then I'm like you. I love all things with birds right now. AND I LOVE Pier 1. Lucky you to get a nice gift certificate there.

I too have young grandsons and am trying to get them interested in birds and other things in nature around our house. It's great fun, isn't it? Let me know if you find child size binoculars. So far they just don't "get it" looking into the adult ones. :)

Oh, let me add on to say, you certainly won't regret going to see Nell Hills. I've been to her Atchison, KS location 3 or 4 times, but not her KC. She is a delightful, caring woman with a huge talent. And she's just a little bitty thing!
