Raining Memories

IMGP0120

It rained here today, hard. Although it only lasted a short time,  rain is the only moisture that is the natural, the intended, the gold standard of all watering .

My father , as a dry land farmer, I believe would agree. That way of living requires the ultimate in rain hope.

After it stopped, it was as if some sort of rapid, time lapsed photography went into motion. Everything began to stand taller. In fact, I did too.

As I took this picture, I  remembered that I used to stand in this very spot and watch and laugh as our girls ran and exercised their 4H lambs, back and forth in the yard.

Does rain, that has been storing up in the heavens and not visiting for a very long while, bring back sweet spirits of memories past? It did today.

Our crazy pug Sebastian, named because he was born in Sebastian, Texas, used to run with the girls, acting like he was in charge.

Thinking of Sebastian makes me smile.  We entered him in the pet show at that year’s livestock show, and he didn’t win, but he acted like he did.

     Sweet, raining memories.

Absolutely...it washes away the dust and grime just enough to let the memories be seen clearly again even if for just a brief moment.

Hi Laura...

What a lovely photo! I'm so happy to hear that you are getting some rain in south Texas! My folks live on Lake Corpus Christi...just south of George West. They said that ya'll have been in a drought for some time now! I love the rain...it's very rejuvinating to me! That's when I always feel like cleaning...hehe!

Warmest wishes,
Chari

I still love to walk in the rain, just as I did as a child. You words and pictures are just beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Oh i'm so glad y'all got rain in your area! We got a little bit and hoping we get more. I enjoy the pitter-patter raindrops make, the way everything looks clean and shiny. :)
Blessings,
Sandra

I love rain only when we need it or it doesn't last all day or heaven forbid, for days. It's nice to hear about the good things the rain brought you.

We are expecting rain later today -- my dog already knows this, and has hunkered down for a good long nap, all prepared to sleep out the storms.

I always loved rain -- although a few times I've been locked in battles with it -- leaky roofs, floods, hurricanes; it's not always a welcome guest.

Hey, the sun just popped out again. Where's my rain?

Awe, Sebastian was the BEST dog. Drew and I were always so jealous. Good memories!

Such a beautiful grassy area. We have a very small yard and that is just wonderful. The memories too. How sweet. We have been having a rainy summer after many, many summers of drought conditions and the news of our lakes being so low. A blessing.
