Birthday Celebration , Ebay, and a Steel Trap Mind

birthday celebration (21)

Have you ever won an item on Ebay, trusted the description, opened the box to discover that one person’s pink (me) is another person’s peach (them)?

So after muttering and carrying on, have you ever forgotten to return the peach alias pink goblets- all 12 of them- and then tried to sell them at a booth you had in an antique mall to no avail?

After hauling these 12 PEACH colored goblets home, have you ever stored items like these in a cabinet and forgotten about them for a very long time…?

And then one weekend it is your father’s 83rd birthday, and you are using certain dishes because you are now fixated on birds and…

You remember the glasses that you now LOVE because they are the perfect color , and in fact your new perfect colors are not necessarily pink but fall colors, plus you have your burnt orange $1.50 damask-like placemats from Big Lots, so you immediately change the color name of your goblets to Fabulous Falling Foliage, and isn’t it wonderful they have been stored in the perfect cabinet all of this time?

Please, please tell me you can identify with this story.

OMG!!!! I owned 12 of those peach glasses! Sold them at a garage sale about 8 years ago after storing them. Too funny!

That is such a hoot!! But most of all... how fortunate for you. Now what antique place in Houston are you selling your stuff, madam?? That is so cool!
Love the dishes.

Your glass and plates are very pretty! I am not an ebay shopper - as a matter of fact, I try not to buy/order anything that I can't see/touch first. Not glasses, but have tried to sell other things in yardsale - did not - stored away - then pulled out and started using again.

I love amber colored glass... I thought it was hideous when I was younger... just had a large dinner party and displayed it in candles, wine glasses, water goblets and desert plates with amber stemware filled with a luscious cobler...various shades of it too... just lets the light shine in warm autumn tones... I kept relating it to the old "harvest gold" then I realized the name amber made it ever so much more desireable. Honestly, I have never seen peach glassware but I would love it.

Laura, quit tempting me to collect birds... I don't have anymore room! They are so lovely... wait till you see my dad's (83, also) wood Bird sculptures. We could fill a room with his blue ribbons. I went to dollar tree and had a cart full after your fall post... I put them back like a good girl. Thanks again for stopping by.

Hahahaha! Love this. Sounds like something I might find in one of my cabinets. I love fishing around our local antique mall and winning items on ebay. You never know when they might come in handy!

Absolutely! I like it when things accidentally come together like that. Sometimes it happens with clothing outfits that way. I have a set of pink glasses in my glass front cabinets. They've been up there for 9 years looking pretty. I think I understand.

Laura,

I just love a happy ending! The glasses look wonderful with your table setting!

Thanks for stopping by and for the very sweet message you left about the velveteen pumpkin I made... I did consider selling them, and wanted to show it on the blog first to see if anyone liked it.

Hugs,
Sherri:)

That is exactly why I don't like to get rid of anything. As soon as I do...'oh man that would have been perfect for this.' So just stash and go!
They are just right for complimenting the bird plates.
Thanks for stopping by with BD wishes for me and pass my BD wishes on to your Dad.
Happy Tuesday Blessings ;-)

But isn't that better than getting rid of them and then saying "oh I wish I still had..." They really are perfect with the table setting. And I LOVE your choice of color for the place mats - "Hook 'em!" Kathy

You are SO funny Laura!!! Yes!!! I can identify! I'm so happy for you that your color misfortune is finally NOT a misfortune at all! Your table setting was beautiful and I love the "new" color name of those goblets. If you ever decide to get rid of them...be sure and advertise them as "Fabulous Falling Foliage"...you could double your $$$! ;)

Yes and Yes. I start out with something in mind and all of a sudden remember something I had stored away that I could finally use with the tablesetting I about to put together. I love what JOdie had to say

I love your glasses. Isn't it funny how feelings change if we just give it alittle time?

Life is just funny that way. Glad you kept the glasses. They go very well with your bird dishes:)

Yes I have, though I'm not sure mine turned out as nice as yours, with a party. Love those bird plates too.

Beautiful Fall place setting and glasses! And yes I have done that before, too. Especially when I lived in my two-story Colonial, in Maryland, and had tons of storage space. Hope your Dad's birthday was happy!

You funny, funny girl. I'm not that lucky. With the luck I have, they would have sold along time ago. I'm so glad that they didn't for you, because this table setting is gorgeous!

Oh, please tell us where you found the bird plates. I am also in the early stages of an obsession with birds.
