All Things Mango

IMG_5617

This summer I am completely hooked on anything mango.

Including but not limited to:

cold and peeled eaten standing, leaning over the sink

in a Mango Supreme raspa (snow cone) with shredded fresh coconut and almonds and chunks of fresh mango

sliced in my Kellogg’s All Bran cereal with 2% milk and 1 Splenda

sliced on top of 1 cup of light yogurt

in a rustic chopped fruit salad of fresh pineapple and banana

in salsa with tostados

in my Black Bean Salad, thanks to my friend JB’s recommendation -she always knows what I’ll like

on a stick (yes, I said a stick) at Market Days in Harlingen, where I was so hot and distracted and busy shopping,

I forgot I was also selling

in a Mango Margarita at Taco Diner in Dallas

And so this morning, at the Alamo flea market,

I bought a case for $4.

It didn’t matter that I stepped in mud in the parking lot.

I had on my Okabashi flip flops.

(These are AMAZING… trust me. They sell them al Walgreens. Can you believe it? They are also online.)

When I left the flea market, I stopped at the nearby WalMart gas pump and this nice young man let me rinse my feet off.

Have I gone a bridge too far?

Am I the only person in the world who enjoys things like this???

I also bought grape tomatoes ( 4 for $1)

and a pineapple.

Tomorrow I am selling again with my daughter at Market Days in Harlingen.

Who am I kidding?

You had me at Mango Margaritas! I do like mangos, but wish they weren't so dern hard to peel. You sure get some good prices on fruits down there in hot Texas! :)

I love all things mango, and in the winter I love mango chutney on rice, on lamb, on scrambled eggs, on quiche, on a grilled cheese sandwich - I'm sure you get the picture!

On a stick? That sounds like a good way to eat a mango! I'll be checking out the flipflops at Walgreens. Have a fun weekend & remember to Sell!

I would love a Mango Magarita! Thanks for the tip on those flipflops. I've seen them, but wasn't sure until now. Have a wonderful holiday!

It has only been recently that I have ever had a mango. Picked a few up at a local market, came home, sliced it up and ate. I liked it! Had them again and thought, ummm... not so sure. I think I need to try it a few more times to develop my taste and your suggestions sound just the right way to do this :)

The mangos have been really delicious this season... my problem is... I have good intentions of putting them in a nice salad recipe or a margarita... but I just peel them and eat them... that's as far as I get!

wish Harlingen wasn't so far away! (or so hot!)

You aren't going to like me anymore....sob...mango is the one fruit that I just can't eat! When I first moved to Florida I had one that was over ripe and it made me so sick that I haven't had one since! Wait...wait...we can STILL be friends. You can have MY SHARE of mangos! xo Diana

I am in total agreement....they have become my new favorite fruit!! I love putting them in smoothies. Standing over the sink is definitely the way to eat them.
