(this was one of the many projects I recently completed)
Level of Difficulty for Someone With My Personality?
comparable to natural childbirth
***
6:00 am Woke at 6 and realized I was out of coffee. Unacceptable, unimaginable.
6:15 am Drove to Chick Fila ( who has delicious coffee) to jump start my engine.
6:30 am Drove home and entered the house feeling caffeinated and calm.
6:45 am Tried to ‘measure off the space …’ (according to the tutorial) where I will be hanging my prints.
7:00 am If I am holding the measuring tape at one end, who is holding the other end?
7:10 am Used a trick I ALWAYS used before blogging made me realize I was hanging things wrong.
7:15 am Stared really hard at a miniscule bump in the texture of
the wall and without dropping my gaze- walked toward it and marked the spot. Whatever…
8:00 am Took a break and wished for more coffee.
8:15 am Got down on the floor with my roll of butcher paper and realized I had forgotten the tape and scissors.
Lithely (not) unfolded myself and started again.
8:30 am Took another break.
8:45 am Lowered myself to the floor holding all of my utensils and ‘ cut 2 strips of paper the length of my pre-measured space and taped them together’ (according to the tutorial). Did a little muttering.&^%$
9:00 am Placed prints on the paper in ‘EXACTLY THE SPOT’ (according to the tutorial) where I wanted them.
9:15 am Drew outlines around the frames. Still on the floor ,which has never been my favorite place to spend time.
9:30 am Now for the tricky part. I measured the distance from the picture hanger to the top of the frame and marked the spot on the paper. ‘This must be exact.’ (according to the smug, self-satisfied tutorial)
This is what I was supposed to do next.
This is what I was supposed to do next.
9:45 am Taped the paper on the wall. Hammered nails into EXACTLY marked dots.
10:00 am With one giant, brisk tug, jerked paper away from nails in the wall. (Like stripping a tablecloth under a set table.
This is what I did instead.
This is what I did instead.
10:03 am Stared really hard at bumps in the wall that looked about right, while holding straight pins in my mouth with my tack hammer clutched between my legs.
10:08 am Hung all 6 prints.
10:10 am Returned to Chick Fila, got another cup of coffee, and decided to ease my pain at Ross.

Sounds like you and I have the same hanging style ;-)
I've thought about trying to use the brown paper trick but somehow I didn't think I would have any better luck hanging a large sheet of paper than I would several small frames......
I am ROLLING laughing!! My daughter & I hung family photos on her very large dining room wall & it literally took us the entire day, many laughs/snorts, where did the hammer/tape measure/nails go??? episodes!! I cannot imagine doing what you did alone, but you did a fantastic job!
LOL - I love you!
I am the daughter of Connie ^^ She texted me and told me I HAD to come read this!! I am so glad she did! She told me I would sooo relate & she is right! We had the best time hanging ALL (and I mean a lot!!) of my Family Photos but I KNOW that my personality could NEVER do it alone! I have to have that calm, methodical, and orderly personality with me when I do something like this ;)~ Here is just one example...My husband was out of town during this project..... I texted him a picture of his level and asked him how in the world it worked??? His answer: "Honey, that is a tape measure..... NOT A LEVEL!!!" me: But, it has a red light on it? Him: Nope honey that doesn't light up.....**SIGH** YEP, it was a long day! But as Mom said, we laughed, we snorted, we enjoyed every minute ~ mostly ;) She is a trooper! She only got upset when i totally changed the order of the frames ONCE THEY WERE UP LOL
You really did an amazing job!!
well I think your pin trick worked quite well...the wall looks great and I've always found that anything that requires me to get down on the floor is just not going to work out well at all!
Good eye!
Coffee helps. You always leave me chuckling... but not today.
Today, I was ROTFLMBO =D
Pat
Laura, I like your style! I for one am all about "eye balling" picture hanging. Gets me in trouble everytime! LOL! Talk about a gazillion holes in the wall!
Coffee helps too.
I think you did a great job. The wall looks wonderful!
hugs
Sissie
Thanks for sharing your great tips on hanging on creating a gallery wall! Good eyeballs and good coffee!
I'm with you. This would have driven me crazy!
Brenda
I don't like those hanging projects and they are made harder by the fact that each print has the hanger in a slightly different place so you have to not only measure your space but where the hangers are on each print. 4 hours? You're lucky you got out alive.
Laughing my butt off here....
It is so the pitts doing picture arrangements! I'm going to try your way next time Laura, because it looks perfect to me!!!
big hugs from here...
This post is so funny! I hate hanging pictures! I have so many holes behind the pictures from trying to straighten and line them up...drives me crazy! I with you on the measuring tape! Who holds the other end?? I did find a great level that suctions to the wall, doesn't do me any good, but looks cool! Maybe I will try this way next time...
Faux Twitter is a great way to document! I have the same personality. I would have given up with no coffee all together. Love the gallery.
I love how you hang pictures! And your recounting of it is delightful. I featured your blog today at stylesson.
Hysterical....loved reading this post.

That was fun to read! Thanks for the chuckles!
Oh how funny, I have used the paper method to hang family pictures in my entrance hall! I feel your pain! NO COFFEE isn't acceptable at my house either! Have a blessed day dear Laura, HUGS!
This made me chuckle. I do not have patience for such endeavors. Even loaded up on caffeine I would have been undone with this project. Great job!! The prints look fabulous. :)
Fantastic work! Its the amazing painting I ave ever seen! House painting
Huzzah! I have a friend who operates as we do. Her husband was in the Air Force and apparently they "initialize" everything. He calls her T-LAR as in "That Looks About Right." TLAR - it's how I roll. Glad to know you sister!
and there ya go! see that wasn't so hard :) i am one who thinks that "eye balling it" is an exact science...for the female species that is.
i'm here to tell ya that being out of coffee is the only reason i've found myself in the grocery store at 6am. and i didn't give a hoot as to how i looked either!
You and I graduated from the same design academy! That's just how I do it - with a cup of coffee or tea at hand.
That is exactly the way to do it. A pox on those tutorials. So what if you have to tilt your head just a little to the left?
Who knew, that is the way I hang pictures too!
Great and fun post!!
Hugs,
Nancy
Hee Haw....hilarious.....the only thing you didn't do was use a spit mark....which works for me.
