Growing up in South Texas in ranching country,
I avoided cactus as much as possible.
Today, in my world of gardening that gives me such
back breaking,
frustrating
PLEASURE,
I have fallen in love with succulents.

I enjoyed succulents last spring,
planting them in
antique Mexican pottery.
I won’t be planting anything in this piece, however.
I love it too much to hide it.

Find an interesting container and head to Wal Mart or Home Depot.
The investment is small-
$2.50-$4.00.
It can all be assembled in minutes,
(using cactus/palm potting soil)
and the beauty of succulents is
they don’t mind being
ignored.

It’s fun.

Laura - you had me at succulents. :)
I love planting them in unusual containers too. one of my fave is a pair of my Dad's old work boots. I cut the toe from one boot and they are growing out of the toe and spilling out of the top. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, Barb
great ideas Laura...as always I love your blog...
In addition to a Christmas cactus I inherited from my mom I also got a couple of little cacti. Can't kill the things even though there is nothing desert like here in Minnesota.

Okay oh wise one. I want to plant some of these in fish bowls for the show. What do I need to do and can I assemble them in a tent in the middle of a cow pasture...with junk for tools?

Looks good, Laura! I have never really grown succulents. My Mom used to have Hens&Chickens (?) I think they were called. She also had a huge Christmas cactus! xo Diana
