Sisterhood of the Traveling Zinnia Seeds

Zinnias-Papa's

My father’s zinnia seeds I saved and planted in February 2016 are growing!

This band of zinnia planting sisters came to my side last fall when my father passed away.

And just a few months later,  when I was gathering the dried zinnia seeds from his zinnia garden,

I shared them with these wonderful women.

Papa's Seed

And when I could, I gave away packets of zinnia seeds, and I talked about zinnias whenever anyone would

listen, and I encouraged starting a zinnia garden.

It was all because of him.

And now for the update.

Zinnias- Laura's

I have 3 raised beds and things have taken a great growth spurt.

Zinnias-Debbie

And these are my friend Debbie’s from seed packets I gave her-

Zinnias-Anna

And these are Anna’s from Papa’s seeds,

Zinnias-Mary Jo

And Mary Jo’s from Papa’s seeds,

And Fran’s from Papa’s seeds,

Zinnias-Mary Kay

And Mary Kay’s from Papa’s seeds,

And my sweet cousin Susan’s beautiful zinnias she is growing this spring,

And finally, my friend JB’s zinnias, sprouting from last year’s seeds- just like Papa’s did year after year.

All women need a sisterhood and gardening is the best common ground for that.

I am so grateful for mine.

Hallelujah! I know you had a little bit of worry about those seeds at one point. So glad it's all working out.

One of my favorite parts of gardening is the way we all share. Gardeners share plants and the love of nature.

Have a great day!

Not only a great sisterhood, but a wonderful garden to cherish your father's memory! I planted a lilac bush in my mother's memory - she was from Rochester NY, where they grow prolifically and celebrate with an annual named festival. It is blooming now in my region and I smile each year it does. I love what you've done!

I'm so happy your dad's zinnias are doing so well. A great memory for you. I love zinnias, too. Mine are still rather small, but looking healthy. I love that you've shared the seeds so the your love and memories if your dad lives on.

A great story....if you ever share these seeds again, please consider my name for your list. There is an interesting book called "Passalong Plants" by Steve Bender, that talks about plants passed between gardening friends. In fact, when I first moved to my Bungalow, my neighbor shared a bag of iris from her garden. It makes a great welcoming gift.

Oh this warms my heart! Everything I am planning in my garden is with someone in mind. It somehow makes it even lovelier.

Laura my eyes filled up with this post. Love the sisterhood of the seeds ... My Mom used to plant lots of zinnias and send me home with a bouquet of them on visits and then later on share the seeds with friends and family. So thank you for this sweet post, it brought back memories of Mom and her cheery, happy zinnias.

Vera

I love zinnias and have never had good luck with them -- but I think I am going to have to try again! The whole focus of this post -- the sharing, the sisterhood, your dad's seeds -- well, it fills my heart with joy. How much I'm loving that idea!

What a joyous way to keep your papa's memory alive. Zinnias make such a beautiful table bouquet with all their bright colors. I grow them in huge welcoming pots at the back porch steps!

I always admire your Zinnia posts. To my shame I have never grown them. I should.

Laura your father left you with a gardening legacy! How wonderful to see the fruits of his labor springing up in gardens near and far. Is there anything prettier than a bed of zinnias?
