Dear Daughters: Remember When?

DSC07364 - Copy (9)
Today, I have the pleasure of guest posting at Joyce’s wonderful blog
My topic?
Please stop by for a visit !
***********************
Dear Daughters,
There is no finer music to a mother’s ear than a conversation that begins by a daughter saying, “remember
when?”.
And so when I hear those words when we are all together, I smile.
Granted there are those times when you finish that phrase with ‘you dropped me on my head’, or ‘you made
me wear a big bow in my hair’, or ‘everyone else got to go’, or ‘you actually had our lamb blankets
monogrammed’!
Because I am your mother, however, I have those same memories.
I remember how scared I was when you wiggled out of my arms and yes, you hit your head (Katherine).
I remember how cute (to me ) you looked when all 3 of you were wearing big bows in your hair.
And I remember how cute you looked walking your monogrammed blanket wearing lambs to the show pen
for judging at the livestock show.

Recently, we had a ‘remember when’ conversation about week night suppers.
I was teaching full time and many nights I felt like I wasn’t doing enough to get some sort of gourmet supper
on the table .
But that is not the way you remember it.
You liked Friday night pizza night, and you liked chalupas or tacos, or Dad’s roast, or salmon patties and
macaroni and cheese, or homemade hamburgers.
On nights you had dancing lessons , you didn’t mind Church’s fried chicken.
What a blessing for a sometimes harried mother , who wanted to cook more elaborately, but who just
couldn’t find another minute in the day.
Thank you for ‘remembering when’ as selectively as I do.
I love you , Mom

More Summer Finds and Favorites

Summer Tablescape 2

How is your summer going?

I feel like I keep saying the same thing over and over again:

”It is so hot!”

Here are a few of my recent finds and favorites that I can highly recommend.

The Nightinggale

Reading and falling in love with a book is such a personal thing.

We all have our own touch point- that moment while reading

when we think ‘wow!’.

In recommending The Nightingale, I know I am late to the game,

but while listening to it as an audio book

on a long car trip to and from El Paso, I fell in love.

If you haven’t read it, I recommend the audio version.

I downloaded the novel onto my phone for free from our public

library.

The quality and skill of the audio narrator Polly Stone is exceptional.

In fact , I enjoyed her reading so much, I am looking for other

audio books narrated by her.

DeCarols

On the shopping front, during our two weeks away, my daughter Lauren and I drove

to Ruidoso, New Mexico to a shop I have wanted to visit for a very long time-

De’Carols.

Oh my.

If you love silver jewelry that is large and over the top, as I do,

visit her web site. I bought the two pieces above to add to a Virgen de Guadalupe ring I

found at Round Top several years ago.

And lastly, who doesn’t want something cold?

Yasso

These Yasso frozen Greek yogurt bars in mint chocolate

chip are to die for- and they are only 100 calories-

if that matters .

I hope you are having a wonderful summer.

PS. These are not ads or affiliate links. I just love sharing my finds with you.

And yes- the De‘Carol jewelry is as big as it looks .

Thoughts of Home on Thursday #22

Welcome to Thoughts of Home on Thursday number twenty-two.
You all impress us each week with your continued willingness to share your talents and gifts.

This week we are hosted by Stacey of Poofing the Pillows.

Moving on to all the great posts you've shared:

Recipes

Biscuits and Burlap shared memories about Mama and her Mexican Cornbread.
I loved reading about her and the cornbread sounds wonderful.

Decorating

At Estelle's we were treated to the cutest Nautical Americana ever!!
Betsy always decorates for holidays and special gatherings with great flair.

DIY

At Faith, Football and Fairy Tales, Casey just finished applying shiplap to her master bedroom wall. She's been decorating too and the room is outstanding.

Inspiration

At French Country Style, Pat shared why she loves old houses. She really shared why she loves her own old house with all of its history, beauty, and imperfections. She reminded me that we should all love our homes the same way.

Gardening

Last but not least, visit Calypso in the Country for a glimpse of floriferous potted plants. :)

It Becomes Real Clear

IMG_1044

It becomes real clear for me when it involves our grandsons.

If possible, I drop everything and go.

I go because being with them and watching them play

baseball is one of life’s greatest pleasures.

It means that when the oldest (above ) who is playing in a four day tournament

goes out on the mound to pitch- I want to capture every single moment.

IMG_1047

It means when the youngest leans up against me and says,

“Madu, can I buy a water?”, I would willingly buy him three.

There are things on hold at home.

No doubt my zinnias and tomatoes are suffering.

I have another teacher training to conduct this month in Laredo.

My father’s business affairs are ongoing.

The garage needs organizing.

And then of course there is blogging- which my heart wants to do in a way

that is appealing to whomever stops by to visit.

Instead dear friends,

I am going to watch baseball.

I know you would do exactly the same thing.

Have a wonderful weekend!
