Dear Daughters: A Halloween Confession

Halloween-Candy1

I wrote this post several years ago , and it still makes me smile today. Oh the fun I had with my three precious daughters dressing them up for trick or treating. My husband always walked with them door to door in our neighborhood while I manned our front door handing out candy. Aren't these memories wonderful ? I know you have them too!
**********

Dear Daughters,

I confess…

When you were little, I may have searched through your Halloween candy under

the guise of looking for razor blades or other

threats to your safety

(hallucinogenic tattoos or LSD laced suckers)

so I could...

pick out my favorite chocolate candy (Snickers) or other candy (Reese’s Peanut Butter cups).

I confess…

that Halloween costumes were not in my wheel house,

especially after a long hard day of teaching English,

so with great dramatic encouragement

and the lure of all of my jewelry and makeup,

I talked you into being a gypsy or a witch

year after year.

There…

I feel better.

Trick or Treat!

I love you,

Mom

  3. Yes, the days of sorting through candy! When I was a kid we had to wait to have ours x-rayed at the hospital where my mom worked. The horrors!

  4. I'm right there with you. Snickers and Reese's could make any day of teaching feel better. I have boys so they were ghoulish almost every year because that took a little makeup and old clothes. They loved it.

  8. Laura, I could have written this post and confession! I did break down and make Halloween costumes because my youngest adored dressing up. Still does at 30! Thanks for making us other "not really into Halloween costumes" moms feel better.

  9. Confession is good for the soul! And sharing candy is only responsible!
