Blogger Business

Lately I have read that many people are having difficulty posting, commenting, and downloading pictures on Blogger.

For whatever it’s worth, I have a few trial and error suggestions.

Time Out:  Right now, my middle daughter Lauren, the elementary librarian and technology go to person for her challenged/challenging parents (while in college, she left us index cards with instructions on how to operate the VCR and later the DVD player) is screaming:

Are you kidding me? Don’t listen to her!!! She just called me to ask me where pictures go when you accidentally delete them!”

Anyway, I have found it more helpful to:

*Use Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer because …I don’t know why…it just works better and Lauren said to switch (the librarian) so I did. This can be downloaded free, and placed on your desktop.

*Use Windows Live Writer instead of Blogger for posts. Rhoda at Southern Hospitality recommended this, and it changed my life and my sanity.  I don’t know why. It just works better.  You can still go to your Edit Posts tab and make changes.

*Windows Live Writer posts pictures better, but again I don’t know why.  Windows Live Writer is a free download.

*I use Google’s Picasa for my photos because it is free, does basic things, and I have a feeling I would have to call Lauren too much if I had something more complicated. I am already on a short chain… Sarah from Memories on Clover Lane recommended this.

Oh- and just so you know that I am a reliable authority, I just deleted all of the photos on my camera’s memory card as well as from some folders on my hard drive… At this point in my life, adrenalin surges are not always healthy.

Oh#2- I saved my gift cards, Christmas money, and any loose change I could find, and I now have a new camera: a Canon Rebel Xsi.

I want to be able to use it without the flash on its specialized settings (ie. macro), but ‘it’ won’t let me.  Can anyone address this?

I can not call Lauren…

Hi Laura,
Lucky you with a new Canon Rebel Xsi!

I suggest you visit with Pat at Back Porch Musings; she is an excellent photographer and often posts tips and tricks on Canon SLRs.

Good luck...look forward to seeing photos with your new toy!

Best,
Karen

I don't understand how it all works, or doesn't work either! Funny, I use BOTH Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer; somethings work better on one, some things work better on the other; go figure!
Have a blessed Easter!

Thanks for the tips. And congrats on the new camera. Unfortunately I have to ask my husband everything about our camera, and we've had it for two years. Not a good authority.

I use Mozilla Firefox and I love it. Fortunately, I haven't had any problems with my pictures even though I use Blogger.

I know noting about the Canon Rebel other than I want one. And I have a Lauren.

Oh, you are so funny. Congrats on the camera, but I have a Nikon, so I can't help there.

Firefox ROCKS.

And I have absolutely no idea what Windows Live Writer is. Gonna check that one out...even though I haven't had this problem with Blogger. Yet.
:-)
Thanks for the tips!

Hi Laura, I had to laugh about the notes to work VCR since I wrote instructions to work our DVD player and taped it to the back of the remote! My daughter laughed at me too. :)

I started using Windows Live Writer and really like it except that I can't figure out how to change the font, color, etc. in the title space. If you know that I would love to know the answer.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't had trouble except when the server was down, yesterday I think. I have used live writer and like it but I like for lead picture to show up on the sidebar. To get this to happen, I had to add another step. But not that big a deal. I don't know how to help you with your problem. Sorry, perhaps buy Lauren a gift... call her to tell her about it and say, "Oh, I had a question":) Enjoy your evening dear Laura!

Thanks Laura for the awesome tips. I had so many blogging issues with my old computer and since I got the laptop many have gone totally away. I have no idea why. I tired live writer and still use it once in awhile, and I just downloaded Picassa to watermark my photos...love it.
I hate calling my kids for TA, cause then they think I'm an idiot on the computer, which I am, I just don't want to be told I am. lol

I did not have any problems with IE until several months ago, then I kept getting "Not responding" messages when I would try to open a new window and have used FF more since. I started using Picasa so that I would have additional options on editing my pictures and creating collages and mosaics. I also use Windows Photosmart and Photobucket. I have had a lot of fun playing around with the different features. I had to laugh about your daughter leaving instructions for you. I have a few instruction cards in my possession also! :-D

My niece is a professional and photographer and for a fee will give you one on one help. She also does online workshops. Very hard to get into her workshops. They usually sell out in 15 minutes. She is good! Fee ?? I have no idea. xoxo

Well, Miss Laura, thanks for the tips, I so need them! I have been told that I need to try Mozilla Firefox. I think it's a must. I use Google’s Picasa for my photos and whatever Jen tells me to do! Thank goodness for Jen, if it weren't for her, I'd be toast!

Thanks so much for the great tips! I love Firefox and rarely use Explorer. And Picasa is good, too. Blogger can be frustrating, at times, so I'll have to check out Windows Live Writer. Call your daughter, she owes you a few favors, I'm sure. lol Congrats on the new camera!

Hi Laura, thanks for stopping by my blog. I'd love to see a post on using Picasa. I tried once, but for whatever reason, it wouldn't let me make changes to my pictures. The area wasn't highlighted?

Hi Laura
I had to laugh about the index cards. My daughter provided me with those, also and continues to do so, even now that I am somewhat more computer savvy. She'll be here Saturday to set up my new PC and make sure other things are working properly. Oh yes, I am sure there will be an index card or two.

I have yet to figure out how to turn the flash off, unless I go to the manual settings on my Canon Rebel Xti. I use a 50mm lens for macro shots, with the camera set on AV or P. I've tried a couple of things, in trying to turn the flash off, when in auto, to no avail...hmmmmm, perhaps reading the owners manual would help me out a tad!LOL

If you find out how to turn off the flash, please stop by and let me know.:-)

I've used Windows Live Writer for about a year and love it!

GOOD stuff tutorial... I always learn new things from my blogger sisters . My Kat is my teacher too, but she does it SOOO fast, that I can not always catch it. ...so having it written in blog form is awesome!
And I read your previous post about actions being louder than words. Amen sister, and your points were all wonderful. along with the pics. :-) I could only laugh at the last one!!!
Hugs to you!

Great tidbits! Here is a stupid question; if I download FireFox, do I have to get rid of IE on my computer?
