Special Christmas Gift Giving

For many years, I have used a method of gathering together a few select Christmas gifts to share with friends old and new.

There is nothing comparable to giving something to a friend that was part of my life.

I have been a thrifter and explorer for a very long time- as was my mother and now my girls- and so these treasures from my special collections are perfect to share with a friend.

In handing it to them, I have often said 'this belonged to my mother'.

And so that gift completes some sort of circle in my heart.

Whether it is a piece of milk glass from my beloved collection,

or a hammered aluminum bowl from the fifties that was my mother's- or later mine :) the feeling is the same.

It makes me smile every time- and it always brings a smile to their faces as well.

My weakness for silverplate, and the collection that has resulted, provides a way I can share my love for its beauty with someone else.

Doing this at Christmas is especially beautiful.

Over the last several years I have begun to find "new/old" gifts in various places from various places I shop. I think it's so much more meaningful and thoughtful.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Love this. I need to pick out a few special pieces for friends when we finish going through my MIL's home. I love the idea of passing them along and giving them new life.

What a lovely and sentimental way to give. Years ago, I was given a gold bracelet that my great aunt had given a family friend many years before. It was so thoughtful of her to pass it on to me.

I have done this too, Laura, and it's always so appreciated -- especially (though less commonly now) when the recipient is someone who knew my mom or dad. It helps keep them alive in the eyes of someone else. I love the pieces you shared. Lucky recipients!

I'm sure your friends appreciate and love your thoughtful gifts. So much more meaningful than a purchased, new item!

I would love to be the recipient of these types of gifts. I went to a birthday party, invited by my friend. She ordered us to bring no presents. However, she gave us all something that belonged to her. I was so honored because I was the only person not related to her.
