Dear Daughters: Soul Tomatoes

IMG_9531

Dear Daughters,

These tomatoes,

and the others I gather from my garden as they ripen,

are feeding

my soul

in ways I want you to know one day .

This is how.

IMG_9535

They allow me to pretend I am Grandmother Mills,

with a bonnet on in her garden in Ricardo.

They allow me, in this modern world,

to be who I was created to be.

They are a blessing and a gift

from God.

They are frustrating and worrisome- as most good things are.

They are imperfect-

which is my absolute favorite state of being.

So find something somewhere you can plant,

that you can stand over with a hose slowly running,

and see what I mean.

Love,

Mom

You do the most beautiful messages to your daughters, Laura. I, too, love the imperfections of real life- xo Diana

Your daughters are so blessed to have a teacher as their mother. Everything in life is a lesson and who better to teach them than you.

P.S. If they were perfect...they'd be fried...the tomatoes...not your daughters!

Oh yes! When I walk in my garden, the smell reminds me of walking in my Daddy's garden with him:) Sweet memories! Have a blessed day dear Laura, HUGS!

I love this idea of relating to a loved one from our past through some sort of action. For me... movimg into a new home means "christening" it with Italian food. Once that sauce is simmering on the stove my family knows we are home.
Your tomatoes look delicious!!

I can picture your Grandmother Mills, I've got this similar and touching scene of you fretting in the same unique way that she was...in her garden. What a large-hearted and gracious note to your daughters. I know they are all taking your valuable notes. They are treasures.

Love you dear friend.

How lovely Laura! We have 4 daughters! What a sweet idea to share life lessons with them. I will be starting a garden with one of our newlywed daughters soon...and it will come complete with hose!
So inspiring!

Thank you for visiting my blog today!
I'm following you too!
Hugs!

What a beautiful message to your daughters. They are so lucky. It put into words what I feel when I am at peace in my little garden.

I like your words,"feeding my soul"very much. Also, I also didn't stop liking and using my brass or blue and white. I noticed Veranda and Traditional Home as well as House Beautiful are showing blue and white and I love it.

I love your " Dear Daughter" letters. I can taste your tomatoes but can't grow them because I have little sun in my yard.

Have a great 4th of July.
