Ranch Recipe # 10: Ranch Style Bean Salad

NonnieandPapa_thumb1_thumb8_thumb_th

The year is 1972.

I am on the phone with my mother.

(Remember making long distance calls?).

I need a salad recipe that is no fail

for my first dinner party,

and my skill set is a little shaky.

Her recommendation?

Ranch Style Bean Salad

Don’t worry about amounts ladies.

You can not ruin this salad.

I am sure that is why my mother suggested it.

This next step is important.

Before beginning, play a country western song from the 70’s on your stereo
.

My choice?

There Stands the Glass by Johnny Bush.

You can now begin.

Rinse, drain, and chill 2 cans of ranch style beans

Chop the following:

red onion (about 1/4 cup)

1 green bell pepper

Gently combine the vegetables with the ranch style beans .

Add a generous sprinkling of grated cheese.

Drizzle with Catalina dressing until everything is coated.

Before serving, add 1 package of fritos.

Enjoy!

I must say... I had to go to youtube and listen while reading your blog today... haven't heard that one in years!

I think we'll have this soon. After all it is Summer chilled Salad weather!

sounds yum but what kind of bean is a ranch bean? Don't mock, I'm a little city girl who doesn't know any better!

Interesting. Seems very Texas BBQ. Music makes everything taste better

Oh good golly...been years since I've thought of this salad...or Johnny Bush!
We called it Taco Salad back in the day with browned ground, lettuce and tomatos thrown in. I guess your Mom didn't want to overwhelm you too much at get-go!

This Connecticut/Maine Yankee had to Google ranch beans- sounds deliscious, but have never seen them! I'm sure I would gobble them up.
Too funny!

Well, doesn't that sound good... I think I'll give it a whirl. My culinary skills are sorely lacking, so this could be a success. :-)
