Secretariat

If the number of times I have watched the

film Secretariat is any indication,

I LOVE the film

but I especially love the horse.

This horse and his success transformed

our hearts and our country’s landscape.

Aside from all of the political positives

(hope during a time of Watergate, Viet Nam, and general disillusionment),

Secretariat was a warrior.

Much like other pivotal moments in our personal histories,

we ALL remember where we were when watching

the Belmont, which he won by 31 lengths.

Many of us were crying.

Jack Nicklaus was as he watched the race in his living room.

Coeds standing at the rail at the Belmont,  who had never been to a horse race before, cried as he flew by.

As the Belmont approaches and another horse has the chance to win the Triple Crown

join me and watch the film for the 10th time.

You won’t regret it.

That is a wonderful movie! Such triumph over adversity not only for Secretariat but for Penny. I was rooting for her more than the horse I think! LOL!

It is one of MyHero's all time favorite movies. There is so much splendor in watching a horse like that, isn't there? What an uplifting message the movie sends- xo Diana

I love him so much. I had a rescue Thoroughbred,Jeffrey, that was on his way to a meat auction!!! 50 cents a pound! He is the spittin' image of Secretariat! His coat gleamed in the sun like a copper penny. Regal with a perfect loving disposition. I am so glad we intervened. I had him for ten years then lost my job and my Fibromyalgia became worse. He is living in Syracuse NY now with a couple who love him. I miss him every time I go to the barn. I just wish every horse can live out their life with dignity. Thanks for this post, he was the greatest.

We love Secretariat and have seen it about 10 times, too. We'll probably watch it tonight! Also loved Seabiscuit....what an interesting time. It was so exciting to see I'll Have Another win the Preakness after winning the Derby. ( I jumped out of my chair the last few seconds when they were neck and neck!) Can't wait to see the Belmont.....I'll Have Another has GOT to win! Linda
