Zinnia Garden 2016

Garden Party May 23

Welcome to our second Garden Party, hosted by your friends at

Thoughts of Home and Share Your Cup.

We look forward to seeing your latest gardening projects.

Please join me right around this corner in my

Zinnia Garden.

Zinnia Garden 2016

It’s no secret that I love zinnias, and it is a real blessing that they thrive

in Zone 9 here in deep South Texas.

The hard rains this spring have been a blessing , but my zinnias have had to battle to stay upright.

They may seem fragile, but they are strong-

and beautiful.

This spring I added a few more places to rest after long afternoons

of gardening.

From this small patio area off my garden shed , I can

look at my zinnias, and across the backyard, I can see

my tomato bed.

This small patio is out of Mexican pavers, and the recent rains have

tested its endurance.

In this corner I can lounge with my feet up on one of 4 wrought iron chaise lounges

I found at the flea market years ago.

And then there’s the fountain I put together out of fountain parts.

I always look for fountain parts at the flea market.

Do you?

In addition to my beloved zinnias, four of my favorite plants are here as well:

pink begonias, Aztec grass (seen above in the flower bed border), airplane plant, and a Kimberly fern.

I wish you could sit here with me.

Laura, this is so pretty! I love the cottagey chairs and pieces you've added out there to sit with tea and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Your zinnias are always showstoppers.

Oh Laura, now I remember what I forgot at the nursery yesterday! I was going to get zinnia seeds. Well, back we go! Your garden is lovely and I adore your sit and contemplate spot! I'm sharing my Southern Exposure visit (which I had on TOTOH last week) since this is on Share Your Cup and also because I've been too swamped to do much with my yard yet! That's what this week is for. Can't wait to get some good inspiration!

I truly adore your garden! I tried zinna's last year and failed miserably. You'll have to share your secrets.

Your garden looks so inviting. Yes we must have places to sit and relax and take a load off as they say. I had to do that a few times over the weekend of planting. Love your zinnias. They are a happy flour aren't they! I remember picking off the flowers and saving the seeds to plant again. I haven't planted any in a while- I should do that again.

Love your garden Laura! Can you tell me what that is blooming in your first photo? That is just so pretty, blooming hot pink. We love the zinnias too but we were late getting those seeds out this year. Your furniture looks so comfortable and is a classic look. The pink pillows pop!

I loveyour garden and lounging area, Laura, and yes, I'd love to sit with you and discuss plants, flowers or whatever. I have some small zinnia seeds planted and they haven't flowered yet. Yesterday at the Dallas Arboretum, I saw squirrels lobbing off the zinnia flowers and just munching away on them!! That's probably what'll happen to mine...it'll be a big old colorful salad for the squirrels!!

I agree there are always questions to ask and stories to tell. While in my garden I think of many questions and the desire is there to share some of my experiences that I have learned too!
Your garden is beautiful and I've always loved your zinnias. The seating arrangement is cheerful and inviting. The colors of the pillows and the fabric design is delightful. Your Bougainvillea is striking and how wonderful the color scheme works in your house too.
I'm afraid as I type this my hands are suffering from pulling weeds and trimming bushes. I think my age comes into play here also! I love it though and keep pushing.
Happy Gardening!

Laura, your gardens are lovely! I could sit for hours enjoying all of those beautiful Zinnias. I had to chuckle when I saw the wrought iron chaise lounge. I bought a patio set (table, six chairs and umbrella) at an auction recently and they threw in a chaise lounge just like yours. It's all in storage now but can't wait to use it at our new home...it will be years before I can relax like you in a lovely garden. Maybe I should bring it home now and use it until we move, hmmm!? Thanks for hosting a great party!!

I am in awe of your beautiful zinnias. I can imagine they will be featured in many bouquets throughout the season.
Your sitting area with the pink pillows ties in so nicely with the colors of the zinnias.
I love what you have done with the fountain parts. I must admit I have never thought to buy them. I think I will be looking at them differently now that I see the new life that is possible for them.
Thank you for hosting the party. It was so much fun.
