Life Can Imitate Art

Zinnias in the Living Room
(Flea Market Finds: brass shell, brass tray, pink book, coffee table book, mirrored place mat,
mirror, small buffet)

Walking through my living room today, after I placed a small
bouquet of zinnias from my garden on top of a favorite book, I made a simple connection.

Life at times does seem to imitate art.
Here is what I mean.

I noticed one of my suzani covered dining table chairs next to where I placed the zinnias, and I

realized the fabric reminded me of zinnias.
And so it goes.

Zinnias in the Living Roomj
It was not intentional.
I never have a grand plan.
The fabric remnant was purchased at a fabric outlet on Harry Hines
in Dallas several years ago.

My daughter and I were exploring, and we enjoy looking at fabric.
So this ‘connection’ today combined my beloved zinnias, a favorite fabric
purchased on a trip to see a beloved daughter,
and a flea market ‘found’ chair.

Now to the practical:
*Explore whenever you can and wherever you are.

*Ignore the well meaning question of family members or friends who ask,
“Where are you going to use that or put that?”
If it calls to you, and you can afford it, buy it.

*There are far more lasting mementos from a fun trip than the typical
choices. How about a remnant of fabric instead?

*Go to a local thrift store or flea market.
The real treasures are there.

I love how the love for one thing led to others. Our homes are to be meaningful to us, not a showplace for others. Great post Laura!

Hi Laura. You read my mind and can relate to your beautiful post! It's funny how unintentionally we find things that serendipitously work throughout our homes! I think if you love something, be it a flower, colour scheme, type of fabric etc. it will just naturally "fit"! Your vignette is gorgeous! ;)

Our subconscious minds are always working, even if it takes days, months or years for our conscious minds to catch up!

Great advice! I always have to know where something is going to go before I buy it and that drives me crazy! Your fabric is lovely and so perfect with the rest of your house. :)

I learned to ignore that question a long time ago! "What are you going to do with that?" Well, I'm going to love it!

And your room is lovely!

Your Zinnias are lovely. Yes, it really does resemble the wonderful fabric on the chair. Both are so bright and cheery and the colors are so very similar.

I'm a fan of both the zinnias and the fabric.

I'm pretty sure that I have been to that same fabric outlet on Harry Hines a few years ago. Enjoyable post and pretty flowers and fabric. Happy weekend!

I totally agree. Sometimes a little thing you spy will speak to you in unheard words. Then I know it's time to take it home.

So beautiful, Laura. I love the way you placed the zinnias... and love that chair fabric. But most of all what it reminds you of! Thanks for sharing!

I planted some Zinnia seed this year, I hope they come up! Such gorgeous colors! I love that the things our hearts love repeat in many places in our lives.

Beautiful room, and beautiful thoughts.

Zinnias have long been a garden favorite of mine, yet I often forget to plant them because they are rarely seen in the garden centers. They were actually the first flower I ever grew from seed successfully. I LOVE your pretty vignette and your chair fabric is stunning! What a special treasure by which to remember.

Have a blessed day, Laura!
