Still Sparkling And a List of Favorites

IMG_1485
Truth be told, instead of viewing life through rose colored glasses, I would rather see things with just a tad of sparkle.
IMG_1484
I highly recommend it. In fact, as I looked around my house this morning ,with the sun streaming through the windows, I realized once again that the things I love
are still sparkling.

And so, if you are indecisive about how to select things to display around your house,
my house and I
would like to make a very humble recommendation.
Pick a few things that
   give back.
How?
Through light and just a little sparkle.

My Favorite Sparkling Things:
silver pieces
which are the gift that keeps giving-
none of mine are particularly fine , and they are rarely perfectly polished
but then neither am I- we make a great match
cut glass/crystal and mercury glass-
my favorite choices are rose bowls that aren’t full of tricks- I just let them do their thing-
they are beautiful empty and just as they are
and mercury glass, which speaks for itself –
it has that perfect feel of being just a little old
mirrored place mats-
that I never use as place mats (I don’t need my food to sparkle)
I use these throughout the house because almost all of my furniture (especially its tops) have seen better days-
and whether it is painted white or is dark and  scratched, a piece of mirror helps
mirrors- period-
and the placement of my mirrors is never about logic or standing perfectly in front of it and putting on lipstick-
it is about helping the light travel.

What a great idea -I've always been into cozy darkplaces (my office, which looks like a library), but I find I'm turning more to sunlight and sparkle these days.

Laura, You are so right! We all need to glisten a little more! I used to thing that it was a bad thing but nature shines and sets a perfect example for us. Thank you for the beautiful post with such a nice reminder to sparkle more.

What a great post. I also love the morning light when it catches on 'sparklies' - your mercury glass is beautiful and your comment about the rarely perfectly polished silver made me smile.
Hope your week has plenty of sparkle!

I love your last line - it's a great way to think about placement.
I love a little sparkle, too. My husband and daughter keep the silver sparkling for me - a labour of love!

Beautiful my sweet friend. I love your mirror...it speaks to my heart! Yesterday I was watching Antique Roadshow and saw a vintage Venetian Mirror that was 2die4. It was gorgeous but no where near as lovely as yours.

Now...your comment on my blog today made me cry. You are as lovely as my friend, Glaphre', and I'm quite sure the lives you touch (like mine) will forever benefit from your love and grace.

God is good.

Love to you~

Rebecca

Hi Laura, this is Patty Peony,
Your sparkly things are just perfect. I'll trade you some sparkle for some peonies! Whatta ya say?
I don't think you can grow peonies in most parts of Texas Laura. But you could ask at a local nursery to find out if your Winter temperatures get cold enough. Peonies must get cold in Winter to bloom.
I hope you find a lot of sparkle in the coming week friend.

Good advice! I love crystal - sadly I just got rid of most of my mercury glass. I still like it, just not the pieces I had picked up. You have lovely sparklies!

Laura,
thank you for this sweet and thoughtful post. You show so beautiful things, like this romantic Venetian mirror and your words are absolutely right. Silver is so versatile, because it matches with every color and every occassion. It is one of the very good basics and so it is a good investment, not only for the moneyworth but for the decorative worth, also.
Greetings, Johanna
