Man Shops Globe and Paint Colors

If, like me,while watching various HGTV programs, you are shouting

You’ve got to be kidding…” at the television ,

try Man Shops Globe on the Sundance Channel.

It is a breath of fresh air and inspiration.

Keith Johnson , an international buyer for Anthropologie, takes viewers along on his shopping travels.

The segment above, set in Australia, was an eye opener for me on color.

The designer Johnson visits in the segment, designs color palettes for a paint company by creating a storyboard.

The pictures, items,or found objects she has clustered on her storyboard-telling her story- in turn indicate the colors for her new paint palette.

I thought that was brilliant.

Picking paint colors is a horrible, slippery slope.

I know.

I have stood in various paint stores in front of a gazillion paint swatches while my brain

I have been thinking about letting go of my yellow walls, but then I have a

about the trauma I experienced in settling on that yellow (Banana Cream).

As I write this, it occurs to me that this is clearly an unhealthy union.

instead of heading to the paint store, I am going to create a storyboard instead out of

found objects.

I can think of a story…

I absolutely love "Man Shops Globe"! He's the greatest!

I've never heard of this program but I love Anthropolgie. The closest to me is 2 hours away in Portland.

The most stressful time of my life (kidding but close to it) is picking paint. I hate myself, I hate my Hubby, and I even hate my home. See, too much drama and over paint?????

I've never seen the show but I will look for it. I think a story board sounds good. it works well in interior design and advertising...why not ripping~your~hair~out~choosing~ paint projects?!

I don't get this channel so won't be able to watch...sadly! I too hate to pick paint. It never seems to look the same on the wall as it does on that darned chip! I need to redo a bathroom soon though so guess I'll have to visit the paint store...and PRAY! Can't wait to see your story board!

I hate picking paint colors too...have had near fainting spells just looking at them all....and they never seem to turn out the color you thought they were....EEEKKKKKK

I have actually seen this show (quite accidentally). It is fabulous and really interesting.

LOL Laura- I can think of few things that are as daunting as picking a wall color and trying to decide if it is something you will really want to live with. I have brought home handfuls of chips and pasted them together (God forbid someone else should want any of those chips) and then stood back and admired..or stood in shocked my choice(s). Many times, because I couldn't choose, I wouldn't do anything...I went into Limbo and my walls never got painted. As my dear son once said, For God's sake, Mom, it's only paint. I said...Please don't take the Lord's name in is a BIG decision. lol He said -YOU CAN PAINT OVER IT IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT! hMMMM...Msybe he has something there!

Hugs- Diana

I saw yellow walls on a House Hunters episode last night and thought they were lovely, and I am not a big fan of yellow. Never heard of the other show but it sounds like something I would like. I enjoy the creative process and if it helps me avoid paint drama then it's worth it!

"If I can find a story" she says! There are a million stories in the naked city and you can tell about a jillion of them!
I hate picking out paint colors. I'm still in a flux over which white to use in my girls' bedroom.

I can't get that channel, but I can do the idea. Some people are just so clever. Thanks for sharing something I will most likely do anytime I change paint colors.

I do not get this channel but do get the sensory overload when picking paint colors. I have totally chickeneed out on our bedroom and am going to paint it the same color as everything else. hugs♥olive

I will have to check that out! I have been wanting to paint my kitchen. My kitchen and family room all join together. It is difficult to do one without the other and that's when I ditch the paint color change idea! Oh well perhaps in the Spring:)

Have a blessed Sunday! HUGS!

I'll have to check that show out! Paint decisions, my brain suffers much damage when I am in a paint store, I am immediately in a total stupor. Not good-

Enjoy your day~

I haven't seen this show but I'm going to go see if we get the Sundance channel. And I know what you mean about some of the HGTV shows....I do find myself saying "are you kidding me" at the TV.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

I would just like everyone to know that I am totally for hire to pick paint colors! It is one of my LOVES and in my 16 years of doing so for my friends, my personal homes and my husband spec homes, I have only had 2 wrong choices. Unfortunately, one of them was documented on my blog so there goes my credibility! My dream job would be naming paint colors. Words and color......hooray! Have fun Laura!

My brain shuts down every time I start looking at paint colors - one of the main reasons the painting still has not been done around here! :D
I don't get the Sundance channel. I need something new to watch - tired of the "real estate" programs on HGTV. :(
Have a great week.

I'm another one who had trouble with color choice. I actually think that yellow is the worst one of all.

Now... I like a story. I should be pretty good at those story boards.

First of all I love your tablescape in the previous post!!! Gorgeous!
And as far as choosing paint colors, I would rather clean my oven. It takes me forever. When I decided to paint the walls white (do you know how many whites there are out there?) i tapes paint swatches all ove the walls so I could see them in the different light that came through duriing the day. We lived with those for about two weeks before I finally decide. If I want to see the color rush from my husband's face, all I have to say is 'I'm thinking of painting the livingroom walls a nice off white' LOL!

I drive my entire household crazy over choosing paint swatches on the wall. Take daily votes and continually add more colors. I usually settle on one out of exhaustion more than anything else. Have fun with your storyboard!

Hi Laura, it's cool in the morning here and blasting hot after 12noon. To get anything done outside I must get out very early.

I'm seriously
bummed that we
don't get this
like a great episode
for those of us who
get so overwhelmed
at color choices!!!
Looking forward to
seeing what you do
with the info....

I've never heard of this program either so I thank you for the tip! I'm paralyzed with fear whenever a paint change is required. Probably why I lived with builders white in my last house for 9 years.
This new one has "raffia basket" & "suede coat" on it & its STAYING that way!! LOL

I can't wait to hear what & how you decide.

p.s. ♥♥♥ your beautiful Spode tablescape with all those luscious fall colors!
