A Favorite : Talavera Ginger Jars

IMG_0627

In my searching for treasures, there is a shape

I dearly love.

There is something about ginger jars

that makes me take a breath.

And if it is Mexican talavera,

I am a complete goner.

Maybe it is their

hippy-ness?

(Which reminds me of a family saying-

“A moment on your lips forever on your hips.” )

Or maybe it is that

perky little lid?

If you are a treasure hunter,

whether it be at your local flea market,

or in the streets of San Miguel de Allende ,

where I found some of these pieces,

the odds of that same perky little lid surviving whatever

box it was in

or the wrapping job of the street vendor,

are slim.

That is all part of the great adventure, isn’t it?

Nothing like a great piece of talavera. The colors are so vibrant and cheerful. Each piece has it's own memory. Love it!!

I have been called far worse than perky and hippy. Ginger jars are lovely and the colors on yours are especially festive.

I just LOVE Talavera period, and you have some fabulous pieces!! Love all the colors too! I would love to find some dinner plates at a reasonable price, but I have not been able to, and I can't just take a trip to Mexico to find some, so ebay is my only hope!

I love ginger jars too, in fact all little jars with lids. I think the sound it makes when you put the lid back on reminds me of the cookie jar when I was little.

Just told my daughter the other day if I ever did my house over again it would be in this.
Hope your doing well.
