Silver Sunday IV

IMGP1116

I know that you- like me- have all rounded a corner, wherever you are exploring, and honed in on a box of something that seemed too good to be true.

It is the unexpected perfect storm- the SOLD feeling in junking and thrifting- what I call EXPLORING- that matches wonderful with quantity with ‘I can’t believe the price’ with the amount of cash in the pocket.

The flea market I frequent did just that one weekend about 2 years ago.  Boxes (I bought 3) of mismatched, tarnished silverplate, all for $80.

And so my treasures sat, until I began the process of going through the boxes and pulling out what I wanted to clean first.

Those boxes produced most of this.

IMGP1128

IMGP1117

This pattern is one of my favorites.

IMGP1118

        But then so is this.

IMGP1119

But then I also like this (and these, and these…).

IMGP1120

IMGP1123

I have a real fixation on bread and butter knives, completely unrelated to the fact that I enjoy bread and butter. That is NOT a good fixation.

IMGP1125

And then there are teaspoons. I have a real respect for teaspoons- the workhorse of all flatware.

But then I love salad forks- and serving pieces.

IMGP1131

I mean who thought of creating slots in this spoon in the shape of a flower?

        Sigh…I give up.

Go see Beth at Gypsyfish Journal for more Silver Sunday treasures.  Thank you Beth.

Hi Laura
Great find! Love love love the different silverware. My daughter one year for my birthday bought a beautiful set of old silver and monogrammed all my kids and grandkids initials on them. One of my all time favorite things.

I cleaned out my kitchen a couple months ago and found a bundle of silverware, waiting for me to figure out what to do with it. I also found one of those advertised on TV aluminum plates to clean silverwear -so chucked it all in the sink, boiled the water, added baking soda, and it worked perfectly. We now have real silverware to eat with. My favorite's are the serving pieces - the big forks and slotted spoons.

Yours are gorgeous and I think my mother has the ones covered in leaves.

Mornin' Laura,
Isn't our job/passion one of the MOST rewarding. Imagine, you got all those wonderful diamonds-in-the-rough and you're using them to boot! This really makes me smile to see such beauties!
Have a great Sunday, Laura

It is funny, Laura... this morning as I was looking around at some of the silver post, I remembered a box of silverware packed away that was my Mother-in-law's! I am going to search it out this week. Yours are all soooooo pretty. I love the different patterns. Sweet serving spoon with the holes in the shape of a flower. Enjoy your weekend dear friend!

What a pretty collection of silverware. I would have more silver if I did not mind polishing it so much.

Laura, now that is a fabulous COLLECTION! How lucky to find 3 boxes...have you finally gotten it all polished? I have 4 soup spoons in the first pattern you have shown us...I am awaiting a book, Cass of That Old House, recommended so that I can identify it. I got sick of going through each page on Replacements, Ltd. to figure out a pattern, click, go back, click, go back!
Thanks so much for sharing.

Love your collection. Wonder if the slots were for a reason? Is it a serving spoon? That would explain the slots. Happy Silver Sunday.

Oh, Laura! I have to be restrained from buying old silver! LOL! YOU obviously made THE haul of the decade with that box of beauty! Some of the pieces I have patterns that are the same, some I enjoyed seeing for the first time in your photos! Fun post!

Thanks for visiting. There is sort of a path that winds thru the store and believe it or not - same type things are sort of grouped together. They ask you if you are looking for anything in particular and can send you in the right direction. First time I had been in years, and then it was at a different location.
Fun store to visit.
Have a great week.
