Tablescape Thursday and Foodie Friday

Tablescape_Thursday    Foodie_Friday_Logo_2

This morning I was inspired once again by blue and white and the idea of my favorite yet simple breakfast.Foodie Friday (11) IMGP0226

IMGP0227

Creating this single place setting for today’s Tablescape Thursday , hosted by the amazingly talented Susan at Between Naps on the Porch, gave me an opportunity to combine one of my favorite color combinations: blue, white, and yellow.

Foodie Friday (5)

I started with one of my new dessert plates from Pier I and a Kennex Lace dinner plate.  I first saw the Lace dishes on Marty’s wonderful blog A Stroll Thru Life.  They are from JC Penney’s, one of the world’s best secrets for sale priced tabletop and linens.  Thank you Marty.  They were on sale , and I have wanted bright white dishes with texture for a long time.  I love that the lace looks like fleur de lis, one of my all-time favorite symbols.

Foodie Friday (6)

I have these Franciscan Tiffin crystal goblets in avocado green, but I collected them in yellow off of EBay.  Although they are from the early 70’s, I think their chunky, interesting shape is timeless.  They are heavy, so shipping costs can be a deterrent.

PS.  I originally wanted them in amethyst, a deep purple color, but I said enough already. (unless you know of a bargain set somewhere…)

Foodie Friday (7)

The sterling flatware is my mother’s pattern, Damask Rose. I love ornate flatware, but the simplicity of this pattern is so beautiful.

Foodie Friday (9)

The other table accessories are my bird salt and pepper shakers from Pier I and my hob nail milk glass butter dish that I found in Round Top.  I have had the linens for years. They are from Stein Mart.  When Stein Mart has a sale, there are always some red dot table linens back in a corner somewhere.

Foodie Friday (10)

What’s for breakfast?  Something really simple and delicious.  Take a look. I have never named this recipe, but it is so good , it is almost like eating  blueberry cobbler for breakfast.

Foodie Friday (14)       Microwave 1 cup of frozen blueberries for 3 minutes.  I buy frozen blueberries because I eat this often and frozen is just easier for me.

Foodie Friday (15)

Next microwave 3 tablespoons of oat bran and enough water to cover the bran for 2 minutes.

Remove from the microwave and add the warm blueberries.  Sweeten with 2 tablespoons of sugar free syrup. At this point I add 1 pat of butter. Stir and enjoy.

Foodie Friday (19)

I also squeezed some fresh orange juice. It was delicious.

Foodie Friday (21) Foodie Friday (26)

Foodie Friday (29)

I bought these juice glasses for my grandsons to use.I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Laura, this is a beautiful post. Loved the blue and yellow themed tablescape, and those white dishes are show stoppers. Love the rim. And the Pier I bird plate is as cute as can be. Love Steinmart, too, and I will remember that they have good linens tucked in the back at good prices! :-) Thanks for the tips.

Happy Tablescape Thursday...

XO,

Sheila :-)

I love the yellow glasses. You will hate me for telling you this, but our Salvation Army Family Store had a set of 8 of the amthyst ones recently for only $15. I passed on them because I have another set of amthyst goblets that are similar.

Well, after reading yours I was so entertained with your writing and found it so interesting witht the fact that I used to live in Laredo, TX! We were stationed at Laredo AFB....and have such memories of the area. My husband lived there for 4 years and I lived there his last year which was our first year of marriage.(1972-1973)I really enjoyed your post on going to Laredo! We want to go back to visit one of these days and see how much has changed. I hope your husband is on the mend!

Laura,
These birdie plates are wonderful what a great color. I love the look you pulled together; it has so many interesting elements and textures. I have been a hard "working dog" of late, so I have not been visiting as much, but wanted to drop by and say hi.

I would have never thought to cook the oat bran in the microwave. Hmm.
I love blueberries all year round. I take frozen ones and stir them, still frozen, into a non fat vanilla yogurt and it ices up the yogurt. Better than eating ice cream.

Thank you for your kind comments to me on my blog.

Your post here looks great! I have to try it!

I've been reading back a little and I love your flea market finds and I like your sense of humor!

I'm so sorry about your milk glass (no I don't know the value, but I think it just hurts to lose anything you held dear despite the financial cost). But the thing that struck me most about that story was the value of what you have that is so much more dear than anything in your cupboard, and that is your husband watching golf and yelling to you not to move because he knew you were barefoot! Isn't that the best feeling in the world?!
God Bless!

Beautiful blog!
All the best,
Eileen

Hi Laura, Oh, the blue and white is so classic. Great minds think alike! LOL! I chose that this week, too, but I like your addition of yellow - adds just the right touch. That hobnail butter dish is so special! Very nice indeed!

Laura,

I will have to run to Pier I tomorrow to search for those dishes. They just "squawk" breakfast!!

Everything looks so pretty on your table. I love JC Penney online. Great deals and they are so stylish. I love your tablecloth too.

I have to write down your little breakfast routine. I live for blueberries. And I just read an article in Weight Watchers magazine about adding oat bran to just about anything for all of it's fiber. (I am taking my first reluctant steps to possbly joining Weight Watchers, starting with their magazine and some of their store bought products.) So I will give this breakfast a try.

Lovely tablescape. Have a wonderful weekend, Laura!

Laura- I love your glasses. They almost have a hobnail look themselves. The do look REALLY heavy. I love oatmeal, but save it for the winter, but it does look good with the blueberries!
