Day 6: Simple Grocery Shopping Method

This feels silly.

I can’t believe I am including this.

But in the spirit of embracing and enjoying simple things, I must mention how I like to shop for groceries.

Here’s my method:

I go between 6 to 7 in the morning.

Why?
Because I am up at that time,  very few people are shopping at 6:00 am, Chick fil A is open by then for my favorite coffee, there is always a parking space by the door, and I don’t have to look ‘dolled up’.

I try to only buy for the week.

Why?
Because my grocery bag unloader at home may not be awake and not able to help, and if I have forgotten something, I can always go back.

If I do have to go back to the store during a busier time, I try to enjoy it.

I know. This may sound like I am stating the obvious, but it is very important to me.

How do I do that?

I stop by the cosmetic aisle and look at things I recently saw on YouTube makeup videos.

I check the magazine section to see if the new Christmas magazines are out yet.

And I enjoy seeing families from all walks of life buying groceries together.

On a return trip on a Sunday afternoon at the grocery store in South Texas where I live, families have on their favorite NFL player jerseys (usually for the Dallas Cowboys or Houston Texans) and their baskets are full of food they are going to prepare.

I enjoy seeing things like that.

Music is playing in the meat market section, and I can dance a step or two if I want to.

If I hear a song I like but don’t recognize, I can use my Shazam app on my phone to get the title in order to add it to my IPod.

I entertain myself.
I smile and greet people.

I enjoy it.

Amen to the enjoying yourself part! Grocery shopping is just part of life and we might as well have a little fun doing it. :)

The first time I walked into an HEB and heard 'Ladies and Gentlemen, tortillas are fresh from the ...' I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. HEB was like going to the fair.

Unfortunately we decided not to move to Texas and I can no longer get real tamales to eat at every meal until they're gone.

I think this post makes a very important point -- life is what we make of it! Grocery shopping can be a grinding chore or it can be an enjoyable outing -- the choice is up to us!

We are definitely cut from the same cloth, even though no way, no how can I imagine shopping at 6 a.m. ~ BUT....I do try to enjoy the simplicity of these everyday things & the people around me. (So interesting to peep at what is in their grocery cart ;) )

I shop at HEB too! I also go early in the morning. I try to get there by seven. It'a amazing how less crowded it is at that time. I've noticed they've really stepped it up in the music department too. I love their playlist! Lol!

You go woman. I used to love to grocery shop....not anymore...I have never heard of HEB stores. Shopping for the entire week makes sense and to go early... Shop away...

oh how I have begun to dread going to the store...but I have found your secret to be in control of it rather than it controlling me and you are right...it can be quite fun!
